Frequently asked questions
Which devices does ComfyReader support?
iPhone, iPhone Duo and iPad, running iOS or iPadOS 27.1 or later.
Which files can I import?
EPUB (versions 2 and 3) and text-based PDF files. Import from the Files app inside ComfyReader, from the Share Sheet or "Open in ComfyReader", or by drag and drop on iPad.
Why can't I open a certain book?
ComfyReader can't open DRM-protected files. Scanned PDFs that contain only page images open in their original layout, but Reader view and audiobooks aren't available for them.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up anywhere in the app.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Reading, listening to generated audiobooks and bundled scenes all work offline. Browsing the catalog, downloading books or scenes, and generating audiobooks need a connection.
How do I pay for audiobook generation?
Open a book you imported and choose Narrate This Book. It narrates the whole book, at a price set by the book's length, shown before you pay. Payment is made through Apple's In-App Purchase and billed by Apple. Audiobooks of catalog books are free.
How do I restore my purchases?
Go to Settings > Extra Comfy and choose Restore Purchases. This restores your Extra Comfy subscription and lets you download narrations you have already paid for without paying again.
What if audiobook generation fails?
Failed chapters retry automatically. If generation still can't finish, the app shows which chapters are unavailable and offers a retry or a refund path. Refunds for App Store purchases are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Is my library synced across devices?
Yes. Your library, reading progress (book and audiobook position), imported EPUB and PDF files, reader settings and bookmarks sync across your devices through your own private iCloud. No separate account is needed, and we cannot access this data. You can turn sync off in iOS Settings > Apple Account > iCloud.
How do I free up space?
Settings > Storage shows the space used by books, audiobooks and scenes, and lets you delete them. Removing a downloaded catalog book keeps your reading position and bookmarks.
Where do the catalog books come from?
Catalog editions come from Standard Ebooks, which publishes carefully produced public domain ebooks.
